In this speech from Jason Fried, the co-founder and President of 37signals, an innovative web-application company, he discusses why so many offices today aren't as productive as they could be.
The modern means of communication within the work place are highly beneficial. Fried found that interruptions in the office were frequent and hindering performance. To solve the issue, Fried developed an atmosphere mixing traditional and new wave business ideas. When face time and social interactions are cut down, more work is completed. He applied this knowledge into the office space. Communication can only occur online. This gave both the deliverer and receiver of a message more control. Online, one can turn off the power to receive and wait to respond. This way, production would not have to be paused and efficiency would thrive.
