In this heartfelt embracing opportunity speech John Seigel-Boettner tells the story of a young girl he had the pleasure of teaching who taught him the value of seizing the day.
John Seigel-Boettner is a teacher who takes students on cross country bike trips every year. A young girl named Anna always came along on these trips but not without having to fight for permission from her parents. Anna was a big fan of the movie 'Dead Poets Society' in which the phrase "carpe diem" became popularized.
Anna died in a car accident years later while she was in high school. While the tragedy of her death left a huge impact on those who knew her, her legacy as someone who truly believed in seizing the day lives on. John Seigel-Boettner encourages his audiences to do two things after his presentation: make the people to your right and to your left feel better than when they found you and to be ready to listen "to the angle on your soldier that whispers 'carpe diem.'"
