Leave it to fashion-savvy tennis queen Maria Sharapova to bring denim to the courts. The 22-year-old Russian professional tennis player rocked a head-to-toe blue ensemble at the Roland Garros 2009 French… |
Maria is an icon in the tennis world and continues to bring crowds wherever she goes. I'm just glad she's continued to improve this year and get back in the game. It's been great for the tennis world. Much better than the whole Ashley Harkleroad Playboy incident. Mike Renolds on Aug 14, 7:40 AM

There are hundreds upon hundreds of tennis balls used every day throughout the Wimbledon Championships. With each serve another ball is discarded into the underbelly of Wimbledon (wherever that may be...they… |
First, great use of the word shperetastic... If Wimbledon actually used old tennis balls to make contact lenses they would be asking for a lawsuit. I can see it now, "Man blind from 'the fuzz' Mike." Mike Renolds on Aug 14, 7:36 AM

The female tennis players in the gallery above all have one thing in common (at least): They’ve all played on Wimbledon’s Centre Court this week despite either being unseeded or not ranked in the top five.… |
Studies show attractive students get more attention and higher evaluations from their teachers, good-looking patients get more personalized care from their doctors, and handsome criminals receive lighter sentences than less attractive convicts. But how much do looks matter at work? The ugly truth, according to economics professors Daniel Hamermesh of the University of Texas and Jeff Biddle of Michigan State University, is that plain people earn 5 to 10 percent less than people of average looks, who in turn earn 3 to 8 percent less than those deemed good-looking. Yes, it happens everywhere. It's a fact of life. Mike Renolds on Aug 14, 7:31 AM

The issue of spaying and neutering animals is a huge issue that is at the forefront of animal activism. In this PSA featuring former tennis pro (and angry mouthpiece) John McEnroe, it states that “...shelters… |
Good job McEnroe. Glad you are using your fame to promote this problem with animals not being spayed or neutered. The tennis world will always appreciate you. Mike Renolds on Aug 14, 7:26 AM

Sneaker manufacturer, Kashi Kicks, is now offering the Liberace Collection of 'kicks'. As you can imagine, the shoes are as over-the-top as the entertainer himself. Kashi is known for their extravagant… |
The shoes would be cooler if you could actually play the piano keys on these tennis shoes. Then you could bust out with "Moonlight Sonata" & "You are my sunshine" while riding the subway and people would throw you quarters...... or not. At least Kashi doesn't take themselves to seriously on a consistent basis so you expect this from them. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 9:27 AM

Now if the people attending the Thom Browne’s Spring/Summer 2009 runway show can’t keep a straight face, how am I supposed to write this up as a serious post? Look at these tennis-inspired outfits, costumes,… |
I can't believe I just wasted 1 minute of my life to look at all of those pictures. Sometimes these designers have to be smoking crack to even put stuff like that on the runway. How do they make a living when their fashion line is nothing but a joke. This is neither tennis clothing or tennis inspired clothing. This is a tennis joke. LOL. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 9:24 AM

The 2008 Wimbledon Championships are well under way, and levels of excitement continue to be strong. Unlike some sporting events, Wimbledon isn't just about the athletic challenges. As much as there is… |
The LaCoste tennis video was probably the most expensive tennis video to produce for 2008. Even though it's not realistic at all for tennis, it was well done and I think the concept of a magnetic racket has some traction. The $1400 Chanel tennis racket was probably the biggest joke out of all the items listed. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 9:21 AM

This Chuck Taylor combination of the retro high top sneakers and ankle high boots is kind of odd. The High Heel Converse Style Sport Costume Boots feature wicked six inch heels, pointed toes and are made… |
I'm sure Serena Williams would play with these tennis shoes in a tournament if she felt confident the heel would not break off when running. I think manufacturers make some of their shoes to be worn and some just to make news. When a name as big as Chuck Taylor comes out with something like this he gets a large amount of free PR. White is the new yellow in tennis. So class up the court next time your play with white tennis balls. They're being sold in Europe on a non-english site, so good luck trying to import them. |
They should make tennis balls that are black. Then they will look new for longer and you can blame your horrible game on having problems seeing the ball with good reason. Of course, I would prefer tennis balls that looked like flames.... but that's just me. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 9:13 AM

The 2008 US Ladies Open has turned into quite the “Glam Slam” event. Gracing the catwalk, err, tennis court, are tennis racket toting women dressed in an array of cocktail-like tennis attire, sporty short… |
Ana Ivanovic is starting to become one of my favorite styles of fashion on the tennis courts. Simple but elegant. Not trying to go overboard but keeping it nice and simple. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 9:11 AM

The prestigious Wimbledon tennis tournament that is currently under way in England is known for its strict dress code: the players are required to dress in all white. But Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova… |
If Joan Rivers were to critique this outfit she would have torn it up. Joan Rivers is hilarious! She gets away with saying anything and everything that she wants and no one says anything or if they do she can tear them up in a moment. I respect that Sharapova tried something new. I just hope she doesn't do it again. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 9:06 AM

Venus and Serena Williams were recently spotted on a tennis court playing against one another. This is a fairly ordinary occurrence, since the sisters have met in competition on a number of occasions.… |
I've got to say that the Williams sisters have done a good job of bringing the tennis world into the fashion world. By doing this they have increased the sponsorship pool for players and increased everyone's bottom line that is in the top 25 on the tour. Do I think they've gone a little far with it.....yes, but I can deal with it. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 8:59 AM

Years ago, when design student Desirai Labrada came across John Henry in a deathmatch while playing Halo online, she probably didn’t suspect she’d end up marrying him in a Halo-themed wedding ceremony.… |
Ummmm, wow. I think I will share a quick statistic:Online dating sites such as eHarmony.com and Perfectmatch.com have seen business increase dramatically during the downturn. At eHarmony, registrations from September 2008 to January 2009 have increased 20 percent from the same period a year ago. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 8:56 AM

While most people probably don't look at tennis courts when searching for fashion trends, perhaps more will do so in the future. Wimbledon and the US open are increasingly being used as a platform to show… |
Serena scares me in that black biker outfit with boots. Who the heck wears boots in a tennis match. Makes you wonder if some these players are taking steroids or something. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 8:47 AM

Tennis champion Roger Federer is seeded number one in the world and in addition to his great athletic skills, he also has superhuman powers. Or so it seems from the latest Nike commercial which pairs the… |
Of all the commercials the Federer was hands down the funniest. This commercial was good for Federer's image, it brought him down from god like status to someone with a personality. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 8:43 AM

US Open finalist Novak Djokovic has a well deserved reputation as joker for doing dead-on funny imitations of the serves of fellow tennis players including Nadal, Sampras, Roddick, Hewitt and Sharapova,… |
Novak has so many endearing qualities. He doesn't take himself to seriously but when he gets on the court he is a serious weapon. This fun aspect will probably prevent him from ever attaining #1 BUT he's going to have more fun than anyone else on tour, especially the violent and scarred Mikhail Youzhny. Sorry, I still can't believe Youzhny hit himself so hard on national TV. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 8:38 AM

NYMag.com aced it with their article on Rafael Nadal. He is not only the newly crowned No. 1 male tennis player in the world but “The Beefcake in the Backcourt”. In a series of photos by Nigel Parry, Nadal… |
Of course Rafa's fashion style is starting to convert to mainstream this year. I guess the #1 player is expected to look nicer for the sponsors than he used too. Of course, nobody really liked him picking his wedgies constantly. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 8:33 AM

If your going to do something well, you might as well do it really well. It follows that if you’re going to be sexist, you might as well be really sexist. Well, Che Men’s Magazine pulled that one off brilliantly… |
By getting your commercial banned I think you get more people to actually view your video on YouTube than would have ever seen it before. The difference also is people want to see the video instead of being "interrupted to view it." It's difficult for most people to imagine the creative process in tennis. Seemingly it's just an athletic matter of hitting the ball consistently well within the boundaries of the court. That analysis is just as specious as thinking that the difficulty in portraying King Lear on stage is learning all the lines. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 8:30 AM

A flower on a tennis racket is about the lamest thing I have ever seen on a tennis racket. No respectable tennis player would be caught dead with one of those rackets. They are "attempting" to sell these pieces of crap on eBay for $1,399. No one of sound mind will buy a racket like this. Mike Renolds on Feb 28, 8:26 AM
