The ARK was Berea built as a practical study for a permanent Headquarters building and Cleveland Eco-Village for the International Center for Environmental Arts (ICEA) - for the old Coast Guard Station on the proposed Whiskey Island Park in Cleveland, Ohio. ICEA’s reputation as an avant-garde cultural center for the elite continues to grow, drawing the likes of sculptor John Puskas, adventurer poet Daniel Thompson, activists Ione Biggs, and environmentalists John Perera, as well as other members of the International Community, over time making Berea home of the North East Ohio’s World Environmental Art Movement. ICEA is now force for socially responsible activity. ICEA's mission, that is ICEAlity that is to "Assist in understanding of the relationship between Humans and their Environment through the Arts". ICEA was founded by David and Renate Jakupca in 1987 to meet the compelling needs of ordinary citizens for access to current, balanced, understandable information about complex global issues. Over the years, ICEA has gained a reputation for excellence based upon a unique library of specialized, current information on global importance and a wide range of imaginative programming and collaborations with other organizations to meet the needs of a broad constituency. With affiliates across the globe, ICEA supports research, information sharing and effective action promoting a sustainable Culture of Peace. The historic ARK in Berea, is the first structure recognized in Ohio to incorporate sustainable building concepts from the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, it inaugurated the green building trend that is now sweeping America. The ARK in Berea is now the home and studio of American Cultural Ambassadors David and Renate Jakupca and ancestral home of the Jakupca Clan. It also serves as an eco-museum, artist retreat, community center, and art gallery. ICEA on Jun 1, 1:22 AM

This October 2007 the 31st Annual Jakupca Family Reunion was held at the 'ARK in BEREA'. It uses ICEAlity to build a turkish style treehouse between two trees called the EAGLES NEST. The historic ARK in Berea is the first structure recognized in Ohio to incorporate sustainable building concepts from the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. Hand built in 1994 as a work of art by the "Spiritual Father of the Environmental Art Movement" David Jakupca. It is a design study for future buildings and for the global headquarters of the International Center for Environmental Arts (ICEA) and Cleveland’s Eco Village. A hybrid structure utilizing cob, straw bales, aluminum cans, used tires, and recycled construction materials, the ARK stands for -Architektur Recycled Kulturstall. It helps to address the environmental problems through ICEAlity of large urban areas and the trend of rebuilding rather than remodeling existing structures. The ARK is used as a museum, community center, and art studio of American Cultural Ambassadors David and Renate Jakupca. It is registered with the Berea Historical Society, Western Reserve Historical Society and the Ohio Historical Society. www.BereaBuzz.com ICEA on Dec 2, 4:46 PM
