My girlfriend, a reviewer for Publisher's Weekly, coincidentally was given Beatie's memoir a few months ago. Admittedly, as a queer woman I'm at the top of the list for a sympathetic audience, but I do have to say that in telling the circumstances of his pregnancy he makes a great argument for his integrity. I believe that people have a right to create a happy, healthy family however they choose. If they can leap forward decades of progress for civil rights as well, I welcome that.
