Out-of-body experiences have been intriguing people for years. About 10% of people will experience life altering phenomena, but this number may soon increase thanks to new technology. Scientists have discovered… |
This research is described in two papers published in the journal Science. The researchers used computer based virtual reality technology to create the illusion of perceiving one's own body from another perspective. This was an illusion, not an actual out-of-body experience. As the lead researcher of one of the studies, Dr. Olaf Blanke, a neurologist at the Ecole Federal Polytechnic of Lausanne, stated "I think we've got some aspects of an out-of-body experience, but not the entire thing. We can, in a sense, trick people." For more details, go to the website of the International Association for Near-Death Studies at http://www.iands.org/iands_news/. You might also want to check under the Research tab for published papers outlining new findings from the most current research about out-of-body experiences and the related phenomenon of near-death experiences, particularly the two written by Dr. Peter Fenwick and Dr. Pim Van Lommel. You can also join the association. Membership is very reasonably priced and they keep you up-to-date on new research and developments. allenupl on Aug 25, 6:43 PM
